- East Devon, Devon
- Part Time
- Grade B: £13.05 per hour

Teaching Assistant required for 3rd September 2026 start
Fixed Term Appointment: Linked to pupil with SEND funding
Are you looking to make a genuine difference in children's lives? Do you want to join a school known for its exceptional culture and supportive team? We are looking for a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join St Peter’s, a popular and thriving school in the heart of Budleigh Salterton.
This role is a fantastic "foot in the door" for anyone looking to build a career in education, to gain high-quality experience, or for a job beyond this fixed-term contract.
The Role
You will work 1:1 alongside an intelligent Year 3 pupil who has an Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). The primary focus of this role is to adapt classroom learning to ensure full access to the curriculum, while actively supporting the pupil's communication and interaction (C&I) needs in a safe, predictable environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- In-Class 1:1 Support & Adaptation:
- Partner closely with the class teacher to adapt tasks, scaffold learning, and apply quality-first teaching strategies (such as supports and chunked instructions) to stretch the pupil’s strong cognitive abilities.
- Work alongside the pupil in the classroom to maintain focus, build learning confidence, and promote strategies.
- Targeted Interventions:
- Deliver tailored, 1:1 or small-group communication and interaction interventions outside the main classroom as directed by the SENCO and class teacher (e.g., social communication, emotional regulation, pre-teaching).
- Lunchtime Supervision & Unstructured Times:
- Facilitate positive play and social interactions during breaks.
- Provide a supportive, structured presence during less structured times to reduce anxiety, support peer relationships, and model social communication.
Why Choose St Peter’s?
We are proud of our "warm/strict" culture—a balance of high expectations and deep care that makes us a popular choice for both staff and families.
- A Stepping Stone: Many of our staff use these roles as a springboard into teaching careers or for a job beyond this fixed-term contract.
- Expert Training: We provide full training on regulation strategies and pastoral support.
- Supportive Team: You will be part of a strong staff team with a comprehensive development package.
The Details
- Hours: 08:45 – 15:30, Monday to Friday (30 hours per week, 45-minute unpaid break daily).
- Contract: Fixed term whilst the pupil is at the school.
- Pay: £13.05 per hour (Grade B).
- Requirements: You must be proficient in Maths and English (GCSE Grade D/4 or equivalent) and have a natural ability to relate well to children.

St Peter’s is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
