Teacher of History - The King’s School
- East Devon, Devon
- Multiple Terms

“A mindbogglingly good, state comprehensive. Proving that consistent, well-managed, well-resourced, well-delivered and kind education for all can, and does, make a difference to a community.” (The Good Schools Guide, 2025)
The King's School is an 11-18 comprehensive school, which takes great pride in the promotion of excellence in teaching and learning, pastoral care and extra-curricular activities. Our core purpose of 'Achievement for All' encourages every student to develop their skills, interests and talents, not just through academic achievement, but also through a rich variety of enrichment opportunities including house competitions, extra-curricular clubs, trips and visits.
For September 2026, we wish to appoint a Teacher of History to join a highly successful department. We are looking for a talented classroom practitioner who can be creative, dynamic, can communicate their passion to all students and teach using a student-centred approach. All classes are mixed ability, so the successful candidate will need to differentiate in order to support and stretch students. We are looking to appoint a teacher who can contribute to GCSE and possibly A Level, a team player who can communicate an enthusiasm and depth of subject knowledge, forming positive relationships with the students they teach. Strong subject knowledge is obviously crucial, but a commitment to the school’s philosophy of ‘Achievement for All’, a passion for the subject and a desire to work in an innovative and supportive team are also vital. An ability to teach a second subject, e.g. Religion, Philosophy and Ethics (RPE)/Humanities, would be an advantage, but is not essential. If applicable, please clearly state this in your application form.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone to join a very experienced and supportive department with a commitment to deliver History. We offer a very strong support programme for teachers who are starting their career and working towards Early Career Teacher (ECT) status or returning to teaching after a break.
For further details, please contact Mrs Pocock by emailing recruitment@thekings.devon.sch.uk.
When applying for the role, it is important that you refer to the school's Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and the DBS Disclosure Policy, which can be found on our website. We are committed to safeguarding the welfare of students, so all staff are enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checked.
Please visit www.thekings.devon.sch.uk and apply online.
Please apply by 9am on the closing date.
Interview Date: week commencing 20 April 2026
