Purpose of the role
Private tenants are currently the most likely households, out of any housing sector, to be suffering fuel poverty. With this role we are offering you a unique and exciting opportunity to lead an innovative project that will make a real difference in this sector: upgrading the housing stock, saving energy, adding renewables and clean heat, reducing carbon emissions and making homes more affordable and comfortable for tenants to live in.
Following recent policy changes, rental properties in the private sector need to meet a higher standard of energy performance by 2030. Landlords will need advice, support and guidance on how they can achieve this, so that tenants experience the improved standards that the policy intends to deliver.
A consortium of advice organisations has secured funding for this project to accelerate progress in raising standards for private tenants across Devon, in line with the changes in landlords’ obligations. Based within 361 Energy (charity), as the manager responsible for this project you will work in partnership with energy advice charities/ 3rd sector organisations, Local Councils, retrofit services, landlords and tenants across Devon. Your role’s purpose will be to help make the goal of raising energy efficiency standards in private rented housing a reality. You will achieve this by developing and leading a programme of activities to drive up energy efficiency standards in this housing sector including:
- Developing clear and compelling advice and guidance for landlords and tenants, for use in print and online media
- Implementing a helpline (telephone and online), to provide advice and signposting for landlords and tenants towards guidance, grant funding, financing, technical advice services and home visits where needed
- Working with local councils to identify and proactively communicate with private sector landlords prompting them on their obligations and how to get advice and support

- Collating data, monitoring outcomes and taking ownership of the project’s evolution to ensure delivery of its goals
