Freedom Community Alliance (FCA) is a Christian charity based in Barnstaple that delivers support to vulnerable local adults at risk of homelessness and/or struggling with addiction and other life challenges.
FCA operates an open access Day Centre and multi-agency hub at the Freedom Centre and also provides a range of accommodation solutions across a number of properties in Barnstaple. These services include; Rough Sleeper Pods, Temporary Accommodation and Male and Female only Supported Accommodation.
Clients who access our services include those who have a history of rough sleeping; have substance mis-use issues; experience poor mental health; current and historical offending and are likely to be suffering from the causes and effects of social exclusion, poverty and deprivation. We aim to meet people at their point of need and support them towards a more stable, sustainable and purposeful life.
The Freedom team works as part of a wider enhanced North Devon Rough Sleeper Service based at The Freedom Centre. The team works in an integrated way to deliver tailored support both on site and through outreach patrols to those rough sleeping, in temporary and supported accommodation.
This new POD Support Worker will work collaboratively with FCA colleagues, North Devon Council staff, and partner agencies to support residents being temporarily accommodated in rough sleeper pods located in the Freedom Centre, at the Salvation Army and in a public car park. The postholder will complete referral documentation, provide clear advice and guidance on referral pathways, and develop person-centred, trauma-informed progression plans based on a comprehensive assessment of each person’s needs, risks, strengths and goals. Whilst the role will be undertaking work on behalf of North Devon Council the employer will be FCA.
The postholder will oversee breakfast and morning support at Freedom for the Pod residents and may be required to support the FCA Day Centre service on occasions between 11:30 and 13:30. All services are to be delivered through a trauma informed, person-centered and holistic approach.
The priority of the role is to complete comprehensive needs assessments and effective support plans that help rough sleepers move into appropriate supported accommodation and sustain positive progress. This will include attending necessary appointments and encouraging engagement in meaningful activities.
This role is being introduced on a 12-month fixed term contract, however it is hopeful that funds will be available to extend this timeframe. Funding for the role has been made available to North Devon Council via central government under the Rough Sleeper Programme.
