Delivering one of the largest payrolls in Devon is a challenge we take pride in—and one our experienced team delivers with accuracy, professionalism, and commitment.
We are looking for self‑driven, flexible, and highly organised individuals to join our Payroll Service. These roles are key to supporting the team during a period of significant organisational change linked to Local Government Reorganisation (LGR). This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a fast-paced, high-volume payroll environment while contributing to an essential frontline service.
Our ideal candidates will be analytical, methodical, and detail-focused, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work confidently to tight deadlines. Previous experience in payroll or a financial environment is essential, and knowledge of HMRC legislation would be beneficial. Full training will be provided.
Our busy and friendly Payroll Service manages all aspects of payroll administration, and we are now looking for motivated team members to strengthen our team.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately input payroll data into the DCC Payroll and HR Management System (iTrent) within required timescales
- Calculate emergency payments and undertake complex payroll calculations, including third-party accident claims, overpayments, sickness and family leave, and annual leave
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of statutory and organisational changes, interpreting payroll legislation to ensure compliance and accuracy
- Respond to enquiries via phone, email, and written correspondence on matters including National Insurance, pensions, income tax, salaries, annual leave, and sickness calculations
- Run multiple payrolls and ensure all associated processes (including Full Payment Submission and BACS) are completed within strict deadlines

About the Roles
We have three full-time vacancies available within the team. Please indicate in your application which role(s) you would like to be considered for:
- One permanent position
- Two 12-month fixed-term positions (to cover secondments)
These roles are being recruited to strengthen team capacity and support the continued delivery of payroll services during Local Government Reorganisation. The fixed-term posts are initially offered for 12 months, with potential for extension.
These roles offer a blend of office-based and homeworking arrangements.
