Nursery SENDco - The Leapfrogs Trust

Leapfrogs Nursery require a SENDco to join their team.
The SENDco has day to day responsibility for implementing the nursery’s inclusion and SEND policy. They should adopt a graduated approach to intervention, co-ordinating provision for all SEND children. Promoting an ethos of inclusive practice within the Nursery.
Duties include:
- Use a graduated response to ensure early identification and intervention
- Talk to, advise, and support colleagues who are concerned about a child
- Ensure that the relevant background information about individual children is collected, recorded and up-dated, and that all written records are completed
- Support staff to do additional observation and assessment of children’s learning and development to ensure differentiated planning meets children’s needs
- Support Key Person to identify smart targets and implement interventions
- Support staff to complete Individual Education Plans in partnership with parents
- Complete additional paperwork and referral forms, Early Help assessments online etc, supported by Key Person
- Liaise with other professionals, including those from outside agencies
- Attend relevant meetings where necessary
- Responsible for monitoring the progress of specific children
- Responsible for implementing the language screening programme and assessments
The SENDco should take responsibility for their continuous professional development by:
- Attending and keeping up dated Level 3 safeguarding training
- Attending professional development opportunities including external training to support areas for development
- Disseminating and sharing key messages related to SEND with setting staff
- Keeping up to date with new SEND initiatives, both nationally and locally as they become available
- Acting in a professional and ethical manner with due regard to confidentiality, data protection and human rights
- Full and relevant early years and childcare qualification Level 3 or working towards
- SEND experience preferred but not essential
