Sands School is a small independent secondary day school located in the town of Ashburton in the southern edge of the Dartmoor National Park in Devon. We offer genuinely child-centred teaching in small classes within a democratic ethos that fosters trust, mutual respect and self-directed learning.
We are seeking a Higher Level Teaching Assistant with a difference! At Sands we believe that strong emotional and social skills are the foundation for learning in all areas. Your role will be to develop activities to ensure physical exercise, outdoor learning and adventure become a central and consistent element of the school week for all students.
You will do this by leading outdoor activities with our key stage 3 groups to promote personal development, resilience, and positive behaviour through experiential learning.
You will also provide physical education sessions to all year groups. The curriculum planned by the Curriculum Lead in collaboration with you will have an emphasis on physical exercise and fitness as a central part of a healthy balanced lifestyle, team-building and enjoying the outdoors.
The successful candidate will:
- Have experience of supporting learners with a variety of SEND needs including anxiety-based issues
- Have experience of delivering outdoor learning and sports activities
- QTS with a specialism in Physical Education and/or Forest School Leader certification would be an advantage
- Have a full UK driving licence
