Testimonials from previous Apprentices
My time as DCC apprentice was thoroughly enjoyable, I joined DCC as an apprentice in September 2024 and finished in March 2026. Throughout that time I felt there was a wonderful team culture amongst DCC and especially the apprentices. The fact of there being multiple apprentices all at the same time creates a great support network for any apprentice. I also loved that I was able to experience multiple placements and learn many different aspects of finance at DCC throughout my time as an apprentice. These placements also allowed me to realise what I enjoyed doing the most at DCC and I now have a permanent job here in the accounts – payable team which was my first placement as an apprentice here. Any future apprentices are in good hands here at DCC.
I would say the best part about being an apprentice within Devon county council and especially the finance side is that of learning new things I wouldn't of been able to learn before, understanding finance and financial processes deeper. I also enjoyed the aspect of moving teams every 6 months this helped to open my eyes to different parts of the financial sector, but also helped me to understand myself and how quickly I can go from being nervous in a new team to being able to work efficiently on my own and with my new colleagues.
Working as an apprentice at DCC has been an incredible experience. It has introduced me to a completely new line of work within the Public Sector. The support I have received has made a meaningful and lasting difference; help is only a message away. I am also grateful for the friends that I have made at DCC. I would strongly urge anyone to take on this apprenticeship. It has set me up for the future with the skills and knowledge I need to excel.
My time as an apprentice has been amazing. From the day I started I realised how much there is to learn and get involved with at Devon County Council. In being such a massive organisation there will always be a place everyone will love. For me I was very fortunate with my placements as I got to learn a real good insight into finance learning about purchase orders, invoicing, reconciling, budget monitoring and lots more. I have now got a really good insight on financial structure and the different systems and processes that occur in finance. Joining with the other apprentices it gave us good opportunity to network and share experiences to develop our knowledge even further alongside the college side where we can use all of the knowledge we learnt and apply it into the workplace and vice versa. I would really recommend the business administrator apprenticeship role for a real insight into finance with lots of great people to meet along the way!
