The Exmoor Pioneers programme seeks to connect people to the natural and cultural heritage of the former Royal Forest in the heart of Exmoor, support nature recovery, protect heritage at risk, and develop the skills needed to support this landscape in the future.
We are now looking for an Exmoor Pioneers Assistant Engagement Ranger to join us on a part-time basis, working 22.2 hours (3 days) per week, for a fixed-term contract until the end of January 2029. The preferred days of work are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, but alternatives could be considered, which would be agreed with the manager. Some weekend working would also be required.

The Role
As an Exmoor Pioneers Assistant Engagement Ranger, you will help deliver the inspiring and inclusive Exmoor Pioneers programme that connects people with the landscape, nature and heritage of Exmoor’s former Royal Forest.
Designing and delivering engagement activities and events, you will create opportunities for people to experience and understand Exmoor’s special qualities.
Working closely with the Pioneers team, you will support learning, wellbeing and participation by enabling a wide range of audiences, particularly those facing barriers, to access and enjoy the National Park.
Additionally, you will:
- Develop partnerships with organisations that support engagement and activities
- Support residential and day visits for young people to the National Park
- Assist in delivering volunteering opportunities
- Monitor and evaluate engagement activities and outcomes
- Ensure health and safety measures and risk assessments are in place for activities and events
About You
To be considered as an Exmoor Pioneers Assistant Engagement Ranger, you will need:
- Experience in youth work, teaching, health and wellbeing, countryside access, recreation, or countryside management
- Experience working with a range of young people, ideally in a countryside/outdoor setting
- Experience working with/managing volunteers
- Experience working with underrepresented groups
- Knowledge and experience of health and safety, and carrying out risk assessments
- Practical conservation skills
- A qualification at NCQ Level 3 (2 A levels or equivalent BTEC or SVQ)
