Hazeldown is seeking a nurturing and experienced Teaching Assistant to join our aspirational primary school supporting pupils in-class and providing Pastoral Support 1:1 and in small groups. We are seeking a nurturing individual with high expectations, a strong understanding of restorative practice and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils and colleagues alike. You will:
• Be a nurturing individual who maintains high expectations and believes in the potential of every child.
• Have a strong understanding of restorative practice and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils and colleagues.
• Have experience of working as a teaching assistant with children with special educational needs, particularly social, emotional and mental health needs.
• Have experience of supporting children affected by bereavement and other adverse childhood experiences.
• Have the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute positively to a safeguarding team and culture.
• Have experience of communication and interaction interventions, such as Lego Therapy (desirable).
• Prioritise building strong relationships with children and adults.
• Create a calm and supportive environment, fostering nurture and care for our children.
• Inspire learners through engaging and innovative curriculum experiences.
• Have high aspirations, resilience and determination to provide the highest standard of support.
• Be a team player, motivated to contribute to the wider school community.
• Show flexibility and adaptability in response to the varying needs of pupils and the school.
• Be committed to your own professional development and actively engage in school life.
This important role combines pastoral provision and interventions, with in-class 1:1 or small group support for children with Education and Health Care Plans. You will work closely with pupils, colleagues and the safeguarding team to ensure that children receive appropriate support to access learning, meet their individual targets and develop emotionally and socially.
Key Responsibilities:
• Undertake Level 3 safeguarding training facilitated by the school and contribute actively as a member of the school’s safeguarding team.
• Plan and deliver focused interventions based on pupils’ Education, Health and Care Plan targets, helping them to make progress towards their individual outcomes.
• Provide effective in-class support for children with Education, Health and Care Plans, enabling them to participate fully in learning.
• Use a nurturing and restorative approach to support pupils’ wellbeing, relationships and readiness to learn.
