Approximately a third of our students board at EMS, coming from right across the South West of England. What unites them is a love of maths and its applications, but they are a diverse mix and at 16, the vast majority are staying away from home for the first time. You will work with a team of boarding tutors to provide a safe, supportive and welcoming home for our students. Throughout their time at the school, you will support boarding students to develop the living skills they need to thrive at university and beyond.
Boarding is a vital part of our provision – it enables us to provide a specialist education for those who would otherwise struggle to access it. More can be read about our boarding on our website: Exeter Maths School | Weekly Boarding.
You don’t need to be a keen mathematician to take on this role (we’ve got plenty of teachers who have that covered), we need you to provide the pastoral support and guidance our young people need during this time of transition from child to adult.
This is an exciting time for our boarding provision: the demand for places has increased and we are aiming to secure additional boarding places through the purchase of a second building which may be further supplemented by Homestay provision. Within a year we also expect to be moving from our current rented accommodation into a school-owned, newly renovated building. These changes mean more work and greater responsibility for the boarding team and so we are creating this role to increase our leadership capacity.
The post holder will work closely with our Head of Boarding to maintain standards during this time of transition and ultimately to further improve our already Outstanding provision. If you want to contribute significantly to a reflective, energetic and determined pastoral team, this could be just the right post for you.
EMS is fully committed to the safeguarding and welfare of all the young people we work with and expect you to be too. All appointments are subject to satisfactory DBS checks, together with the receipt of references.
If you would like the opportunity to discuss this post, please get in touch by either calling 01392 429020 and asking to speak to Grace or emailing jobs@exeterms.ac.uk. We’d love to hear from you!
