Through our Step In Apprenticeship Programme, we are looking for a motivated and curious Business Administration Apprentice to join our Democratic Services and Scrutiny Team. This is a fantastic opportunity to build valuable skills while gaining hands-on experience across a wide range of council services and a practical understanding of Democratic Services and Scrutiny - not just the theory, but how it works day-to-day in a busy public sector organisation.
In practice it will be 1 study day a week, and the rest at County Hall. There may be opportunity for some home working from time to time.
The work location for this position is at County Hall, Exeter.
About this role:
As a Democratic Services apprentice, you’ll support how the Council makes decisions and runs its meetings. This is a great opportunity to learn how local government works while gaining practical experience in a busy team.
You’ll help with a range of tasks, including:
- Helping elected Members with information and queries
- Keeping records and information up to date
- Supporting online meetings and livestreaming
- Getting involved in civic and community events
- Working with different teams across the Council

- Is interested in how local councils and democracy work
- Has good attention to detail
- Is organised and willing to learn
- Has good communication skills
- Is reliable and can work as part of a team
- Is interested in building a career in the public sector
