Exciting Opportunity: Assistant Accountant (x2 – Fixed Term for 12 Months)
We are recruiting to x2 posts. 1 at 1 FTE and another at 0.7 FTE
We are delighted to offer two exciting opportunities for motivated and ambitious finance professionals to join our Adult Social Care Finance team as Assistant Accountants.
These are two fixed-term roles for 12 months (one full-time and one part-time), based within a high-profile and fast‑paced service area. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to work that makes a genuine and positive difference to services and communities.
The roles would suit individuals who are confident communicators with strong interpersonal skills, comfortable working with IT systems, and able to apply sound analytical judgement. A solid understanding of core accounting principles is essential, along with the ability to organise and prioritise competing demands, meet deadlines, and consistently deliver high-quality work.
You will join a supportive, collaborative, and experienced finance team, gaining valuable exposure to complex financial management within Mental Health or operational services. You will also play an active role in driving service and system improvements, helping to shape and strengthen financial processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide high‑quality financial and budget management support across Mental Health or operational services, helping budget holders understand performance, manage pressures, and make well‑informed decisions.
- Actively contribute to the development and delivery of financial system and process improvements.
- Play a key role in driving financial system and process improvements, identifying opportunities to strengthen forecasting, reporting, and financial controls.
- Manage, support, and develop a small team, providing clear leadership, setting direction and priorities, and fostering a motivated, high‑performing finance team committed to quality and continuous improvement.
- Promote strong financial governance and best practice, ensuring compliance with regulations while supporting continuous improvement and service transformation.
Location
- Based at County Hall, Exeter. Some travel to other sites may be required. Flexible working options may be available, subject to service delivery and business needs.
