Job Description

Devon Youth Justice Service is looking for a part-time case holding YJS officer to be based at the YJS office in Barnstaple.

You will be required to carry out the full range of YJS tasks from writing Court reports, carrying out AssetPlus assessments, working with young people on Court Orders and representing the service in Court. 

Applicants will have a recognised professional qualification in Social Work, Probation, Education (including Youth and Community Work, Youth Justice or a relevant health special qualification.

Ideally applicants should have a Youth Justice qualification however, applications will be considered from candidates who are willing to learn new skills in this area.

Further, you will be required to cover Courts on a Saturday or a Bank Holiday on a rota basis, covering around ten such Courts per year.

The Devon Youth Justice Service (formerly known as Devon Youth Offending Team) is a multi-agency team made up of staff from a variety of professional backgrounds who work with young people and their families to reduce offending and re-offending. You should be enthusiastic and motivated to work creatively with young people, their parents/carers, other professionals and with victims of crime.

Devon Youth Justice Service work with children in a trauma-informed way, you should have experience of this or a willingness to undertake training in this area. 

You will be based in Barnstaple but you would be required to travel to meet with service users across the area when needed.

This role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.
