The Network Operations Control Centre are looking for a driven, enthusiastic individual, who can make calculated decisions, to join the team as a Watchkeeper, with specific duties in supporting the Bus Service Improvement Project. Continuing to build on the excellent working relationship with bus operators across Devon, you will have a pivotal role in delivering this important project. You will be a point of contact for bus operators ensuring issues that may impact the bus network are communicated in advance or reactively due to highway incidents.
Our team of Watchkeepers work on a rolling 12-week work pattern to cover 24/7 365 operations. This role does not work to this pattern, but a flexible approach is required. Unsociable hours payment will be made for any cover worked outside of normal office hours.
Main day to day tasks to discharge DCC's network management duty include, but are not limited to:
- Monitoring our county wide CCTV network.
- Monitoring the weather through web-based software
- Traffic management and fault detection through our Urban Traffic Control systems
- Maintaining communications with the public, DCC colleagues, emergency services and many other stakeholders.
- Processing of abnormal load notifications
This communication involves telephone, Police airwaves radio, electronic signage, social media, email, and other web-based software, so require very good written and verbal communication skills. Police vetting to NPPV2 will be required with a basic DBS check undertaken.
Highways experience and a knowledge of the public transport system in Devon is desirable, but being an adaptable and a critical thinker, is a must.
