We have an exciting opportunity to join Torbay Children's Services Cared For Children team as a Team Manager working with some of our most amazing children and young people and a team of dedicated and passionate social workers.

We are looking for someone who is absolutely committed to improving outcomes for children and young people, their parents and carers, their families and partners to achieve the best outcomes for cared for children, and supporting them to realise their full potential. This role includes the supervision of a team of social workers, providing clear and well-informed management oversight, supporting social workers to progress care planning for children and young people, working across the range of Children’s Services and with the wider partnership to improve outcomes for young people and using data and performance in an analytical way to understand and improve the lived experiences of children and the service improvements required in order that Torbay’s Cared For Service can the best it can possibly be.
This post meets the requirements for an Enhanced Criminal Record Check. This will show spent and unspent convictions and adult cautions which have not been filtered in line with legislation, plus any information held by local Police that is considered relevant to the role.

Essential:
- Significant decision making skills – the ability to analyse information, draw conclusions and effect judgements based on outcomes and risk.
- Proven problem solving skills – the ability to identify causes, make objective and informed judgements that demonstrates emotional resilience and balance.
- Ability to appraise and motivate staff in a way that ensures compliance with policies but also enables individuals to develop.
- Ability to work effectively with colleagues and partners across agency boundaries.
- Ability to plan, organise and use resources effectively and efficiently.
As this post meets the requirements of the Immigration Act 2016 (part 7), the ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.
Knowledge
Essential:
- Knowledge and understanding of the full range of activities delivered by the Authority and partners in relation to children, young people and families.
- Thorough understanding of the professional practice relating to safeguarding and working with complex families.
- Awareness of effective management practices.
- Ability to demonstrate awareness and understanding of equal opportunities.
- Thorough understanding of current legislation and DfE guidance and developments in services to children young people and families.
Experience & Qualifications
Essential:
- Extensive social work qualification experience of working with children and families in the context of current legislation and government initiatives / or minimum of two years post social work qualification experience plus significant management experience in a relevant field working with children and families.
- Current Social Work England Registration.
- Social work degree.
- Experience of managing or supporting others and assuring compliance to policy and procedures.
- Evidence of having delivered improved outcomes and impact for children and young people.
