Teaching Assistant - Doddiscombsleigh Primary School

  • Multiple Locations
  • Multiple Terms
  • £9.99 - £10.39 per hour

An opportunity has arisen at Doddiscombsleigh Primary School for an enthusiastic, resilient and committed person to encourage, motivate and support a child in our mixed KS2 Class, ideally starting immediately but as soon as possible. Oak Class has 16 children across years 3-6. You will be part of a dedicated team who ensure a safe and happy learning environment for all children but with responsibility for supporting a child who has particular needs.

The post is to cover 6.25 hours per day (Monday to Friday) during term time, between 8.45am and 3.30pm daily, with a 30-minute lunch break. We will consider any combination of working days and would split the post if necessary, therefore we invite applications from candidates who would like to work any combination of days.

This post is of a temporary nature because it is formally attached to a year 3 aged child with educational needs and when this child leaves, or no longer requires support, the funding will be withdrawn and the post will no longer be available (expected July 2025). The curriculum work will be prepared by the teacher and, as with all Teaching Assistant posts, you may be used in other areas of the school as and when required. Your role will primarily be to provide support on a 1:1 basis, within small groups and through tailored interventions.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will need to be able to build good relationships with children, staff and parents and be a friendly and positive presence in our school. You would have high expectations of children’s behaviour and be able to maintain consistent boundaries. We are looking for someone who has excellent English and Maths skills, with Grade A-C qualification at GCSE or equivalent. Experience of working in a classroom situation, a qualification as a Teaching Assistant or experience in a similar role in a school is ideal. We are looking for someone who can continue to liaise and build relationships with parents and families and, therefore, good and courteous communication skills are a necessity. Ideally, you will also have prior knowledge and experience of working with children with special educational needs.

If you have the appropriate skills, including patience, kindness and enthusiasm, and would like to join our small team, please ensure you read the attachments below for further details and we welcome your application.

Our whole team is motivated, hard-working and dedicated and we value a new colleague who is passionate about learning, highly organised, with a great sense of humour, who will participate fully in school life. Our highly successful federation is a popular choice with children, parents and staff and our schools boast a friendly and welcoming environment.

Visits to the school can be arranged by appointment by contacting the school office on 01647 252253 or hrdept@doddi.devon.sch.uk.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
This role requires a DBS disclosure.
This role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.

Your completed application form should be returned to hrdept@doddi.devon.sch.uk.
Please apply by noon on the closing date.
