This is a great development opportunity and will suit someone who is proactive, comfortable lone working, enjoys autonomy within their role and the chance to be creative with assessment and therapy work. The post holder will be supported by friendly and forward-thinking team members. We are looking for someone interested in working in an innovative, self-directed and flexible way, who recognises the value of the therapeutic relationship and the power of direct therapy, as well as the need to empower those working with the children and young people who learn with us. Our Senior Leadership Team are trauma informed and work within the neurodiversity paradigm using neurodiversity affirming practices. Therefore, the post holder will be expected to share the same values and be willing to develop their practice in line with these approaches.

Drawing on their experience as a Speech and Language Therapist, alongside their excellent communication skills, the post holder will ensure that pupils’ speech and language needs are accurately assessed and will support the planning of high-quality Speech and Language Therapy programmes of study for staff to deliver. They will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team and be supported in developing their specialist knowledge and skills. They will be encouraged and supported to regularly undertake continual professional development.

This is a really exciting time to join us. Transforming Futures Trust’s core purpose is to improve the lives of children and young people with special needs and/or disabilities (SEND). The Trust itself has improved, with strong education and governance, and sound finances, with greater stability in delivering the best possible education for the children and young people in our schools.

The Trust is made up of three, soon to be four, special schools that are dedicated to meeting the needs of pupils with social, emotional or mental health needs and/or on the autistic spectrum. Our settings span Devon, Cornwall and Plymouth. The Regional Director (formerly the Regional Schools Commissioner) has already approved our Trust to sponsor Mount Tamar School. We are committed to the job in hand and so this role will include significant time supporting leaders to enhance the specialist education we provide for our pupils.

Initially, the role will be home based. Therefore, the successful candidate will be prepared to travel and be able to work from home. They should also be prepared to be adaptable as the needs of the Trust changes. The post is fixed term until March 2023 in the first instance.
