An opportunity has arisen whereby we are looking to appoint a dedicated and professional SEND Teaching Assistant to start as soon as possible. You will work as part of the Special Education Needs and Disability (SEND) team to support those children with specific needs. You will need to be able to demonstrate an excellent level of understanding of children will specific needs (both mental and physical) and how they can be best supported to ensure they thrive in mainstream education. You will be working within a busy and dynamic teaching environment and will need to have a passion and commitment to wanting our young children to develop a life-long love of learning by being a positive and supportive role model.
Within this role, you will provide dedicated 1:1 support for children with complex and specific needs. Your role will be varied but will require you to deliver both physical care and educational support to individual children. This may include intimate care with physiotherapy, personal hygiene and toileting needs and help with feeding and drinking. Where required you will need to be responsible for the administration of medicines or injections. There is also a need for you to safely move children from their wheelchair. There will be training provide to ensure safe handling and moving children, around implementing the care plans, delivering physiotherapy exercises, with speech and language and phonics programmes.
You will also assist the teaching staff in the preparation of the learning environment, liaising with parents, maintaining pupil records, and carrying out a range of administrative tasks to support the teaching staff. Every child has their own digital device, and you will be required to use digital technologies and software to support as part of the different intervention programmes that you will be part of the delivery. Good experience of working with children and relevant qualifications are required.
The school offers an exciting and enriched curriculum through a wide range of activities, both within the classroom but also through the wider environment. Whilst your primary focus will be on supporting individual children to be able to access this curriculum to ensure that they make excellent progress. This will involve you working with teachers and the SENDCo to adapt the curriculum the broad and balanced curriculum offer to meet the individual needs including the teaching of reading, involvement in PE and Games sessions, going on school trips and residentials and taking responsibility for the mentoring and tutoring of these individual children. We provide a full programme of extra-curricular activities, outdoor learning programmes, sporting opportunities, dedicated art and science rooms, a library service and 1:1 digital device for every pupil.
You will also be involved in leading playtime activities with children and supporting within the family dining service where older children serve young children each lunch time.
What we offer:
- A Salary of £23,866 FTE | Actual Salary of £16,922 (40 weeks)
- Hours are 9am - 3:30pm, Monday – Friday, 40 weeks per year (Term time + 10 days)
