  • Full Time
  • £24,432 - £27,514 per annum

Fixed Term Contract Until 31st March 2023

Social Care Assessor – North Devon Link Service (NDLS) – Mental Health

A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a fixed term Social Care Assessor in the NDLS covering the whole of the north Devon area

The post can be offered as either a fixed term or secondment opportunity (for those looking to develop their Mental Health skills) with funding for the role confirmed until 31st March 2023.  It will be based in Barnstaple with some flexible working from home.

This is a good opportunity for someone who wishes to progress their career in the social care field or an exciting secondment development opportunity for an established social care assessor wishing to gain frontline mental health experience.  You will learn new skills and you will be supported as you gain experience through regular supervision.

The current NDLS is undergoing transformation from an open access building based service into a Care Act, 2014 eligible, short term, goal focused Community Enabling Service.  This post will further support these plans, working with current NDLS staff and linking in with Devon Partnership NHS Trust assigned social workers and social care assessors.

Devon County Council social care workforce ensures that the people of Devon can access excellent community assets and resources.  Be part of our ongoing commitment to outstanding delivery and integrated care.

Social Care Assessor

The role will require you to assess people to promote independence, supporting an asset-based approach which seeks to optimise opportunities for people to reduce and delay their need for formal care and support.  Undertake assessments of need and eligibility; develop and review personalised support arrangements that will enable people to maximise their independence and maintain safety and well-being on their recovery journey.  The scope of the role is to work with individuals with a primary mental health need.

We are looking for applicants who will be confident in working with people in sometimes difficult situations, their carers, and other professionals.  You will have experience of working in a health or social care environment and have a good understanding of human needs.  You will also ideally have experience of undertaking assessments.

You should be an effective communicator both verbally and through written formats, able to prioritise your work load, manage conflict effectively, be flexible, have good time management skills and be able to work under pressure.  You need to be IT literate and willing to develop your skills.  You will be committed to equality and diversity, good customer service, be enthusiastic and look to achieving positive outcomes for vulnerable people.

In return, you will be part of a friendly, supportive and experienced team with regular supervision, appraisal and promotion of Continuing Professional Development, regular team meetings, and access to learning and development opportunities.

Please contact Contract Manager Jane King for an informal conversation about this role on either or 07891 530537.

If you are interested in this role as a secondment opportunity, please ensure that you have authorisation from your current line manager and confirm this in the application.
