SEND Casework Officer - Torbay Council

The Special Educational Needs Team is seeking to recruit a SEND Casework Officer to cover maternity leave. Ideally we would like you to be able to start at the end of September 2022. We are anticipating that this contract will be for a fixed period of time until the end of August 2023.

The SEND Casework Officers work closely with children, young people and families; schools and other professionals to ensure the needs of children and young people with Education, Health and Care Plans receive the appropriate support in school, and achieve good outcomes. The post will entail face to face contact with the students themselves, and their parents/carers. The SEND Casework Officers are required to have a thorough understanding of SEND legislation and how this is responded to within a school context. Complex casework is a day to day expectation of this post, and you will need to have a comprehensive knowledge of how schools work, and previous experience of working at a multi-professional level.

This post requires a high level of oral and written communication skills, and high level skills in negotiation , with a solution focused approach. The SEND Casework Officers are hybrid workers based from home, with 1 day in the office in Torquay(Wednesdays).
