About you
If you’ve got experience in managing the commissioning of building projects Devon County Council could be a great fit for you. In our in-house consultancy our Built Environments team commission the construction and refurbishment of buildings within the education estate, deliver major capital projects across the Devon County Council portfolio and manage the schools capital maintenance programme.
You will be an experienced team leader with the ability to think strategically in a political context. An excellent communicator, a problem solver with knowledge of legislation and government policy in children’s services and confident financial manager.
What will I be responsible for
You will be responsible for a team of 6 comprising Project Managers, Performance Manager and Programme Support Officers , in addition to the delivery of Devon County Council’s education capital programme with a value of approximately £30m.
Managing the Capital programme requires you to work across the authority, with partners and other external organisations to ensure the delivery of large, complex capital investment projects including working with external agencies such as property developers, and external providers such as academy trusts, the Exeter and Plymouth Dioceses. Recent projects have included the new Science Park flagship building, Promise School SEMH School in Okehampton, the new Trinity Primary school, new build projects at Orchard Manor and Lampard Special Schools. It also includes large expansion projects across the school estate (including academies) to support our statutory duty to provide sufficient school places. In addition, projects include DCC corporate accommodation schemes and the Children’s Homes redevelopment programme.
The role will require liaison with the Department for Education in support of the national School Rebuilding Programme and free school programme as well as the submission of future applications to central government funding/investment opportunities.

Where will I be based?
Hybrid working is available to all, our main offices is in Exeter, where we spend at least two days a week. Our projects can be based across Devon.
What do I need to apply?
A BSc/BA, or Level 6 equivalent and proven experience in Project/Programme Management (formal qualification desirable)
