We’re on the lookout for a part time Neighbourhood Highways Officer (NHO) to join our dedicated team in Exeter. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in shaping the future of Devon’s highways and transport infrastructure – all while embracing sustainable travel.
What Will You Be Doing?
As an NHO, you’ll be the vital link between the County Council and the communities we serve. Your work will be varied, meaningful, and community-focused. You’ll:
- Support local County Councillors and engage with Town & Parish Councils and community groups.
- Communicate planned works and gather local priorities.
- Help design and develop local highway schemes based on community feedback and road condition data.
- Assess speed limit requests and investigate public reports on highway issues.
- Help Manage applications for street cafés, banners, road closures, tourism signs, and more.
- Identify funding opportunities for local transport improvements.
- Working Monday and Tuesday full day, Wednesday will be part day, (during training days this could be different).
Who Will You Be Working With?
You’ll be based at our Exeter depot, working closely with a small, friendly team covering the Exeter and Exmouth area. You’ll also collaborate with colleagues across the County Council, gaining support and sharing expertise.
