The United schools Federation have two exciting opportunities to join our successful Federation Catering Team as Kitchen Managers at either The Topsham Primary or Ipplepen Primary School.
Both positions are Permanent, Grade C (scale point 5 to 7) dependant on experience. We require 25 hours per week; worked Monday to Friday; term time only.
Post 1: Based at our Ipplepen School, near Newton Abbot, TQ12 5QL. You would be catering for approximately 160 pupils. The school has its own school kitchen within the main school building. Ipplepen School is very hugely popular in the community. The staff, parents, children and governors are supportive and welcoming. Ideally we prefer to have someone start with us in June 25, subject to satisfactory completion of Safeguarding and pre-employment checks.
Post 2: Based at the Topsham School, Orchard Way, Topsham, Exeter EX3 0DN. You will be catering for approximately 210 children daily. The Kitchen at Topsham school has been completely re-furbished and we will be looking at opening this facility at the beginning of September 2025. The kitchen manager would be required for then, having completed Safeguarding and Pre-employment checks.
Both positions will require the postholder to be responsible for the day to day catering operations at each school, however support is available from the Federation Catering manager.
Main tasks include:
- Prepare, cook and serve meals for children and adults, taking into account any special dietary needs;
- Ensure all health and safety and food hygiene regulations are maintained within the kitchen environment;
- Ensuring a good standard of cleanliness is maintained in the kitchen and report any equipment faults;
- Ensure adequate food supplies are available;
- Assist with daily washing up and sterilising of all cutlery, crockery and kitchen equipment;
- Ensure the setting up of the dining area in the school hall, then cleaning and clearing after service.
You must be a committed and professional person with a welcoming personality. You must have previous experience of working in catering and have a good knowledge of food hygiene and preparation. A moderate amount of lifting is necessary as part of the duties will include taking provisions. A Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering qualification or equivalent will be required, however, training can be done in post if necessary.

This role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.
