Initially, for the 2025-2026 academic year, we are looking to appoint a KS2 teacher. This post will involve sharing responsibility for a class with the head teacher. You will be required to contribute to the provision of high-quality Teaching and Learning, ensuring maximum progress for all. The role will be mainly KS2 class based, with the possibility of teaching across the school for a small part of the week. You will be a positive role model for the school community and committed to raising levels of pupil achievement. You should be an excellent classroom practitioner who is committed to providing high quality learning experiences for all children and have a desire to continually improve your practice. There may also be additional supply opportunities available.
You must be committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all pupils at the school.
Shebbear is a small community school situated in the north Devon countryside. The school is friendly and welcoming and you will be supported by the experienced staff to ensure success in the role.
The post is fixed term due to a need to cover a secondment for an initial period of one year.
You will:
- Hold the relevant professional qualifications (QTS);
- Have relevant key stage teaching experience;
- Have excellent pedagogical understanding of how to progress learning;
- Have experience or understanding of working with a mixed year group class;
- Work across all year groups in the primary school;
- Be a well-organised, reliable, enthusiastic individual who will review, monitor and evaluate school performance;
- Have the desire and skills to coordinate subjects across the school;
- Have a commitment to the safeguarding of all pupils.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Working with the DSL and Deputy DSL to ensure safeguarding policies are adhered to;
- Working closely with school staff to ensure that the visions and values of the school are upheld;
- Maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge of the teaching of relevant subject(s) and wider curriculum developments;
- Being an outstanding practitioner, carrying out the functions of a teacher in accordance with the Teacher Standards and the stated aims and objectives of the school Helping develop the school’s policies and actively promote high levels of achievement at all stages;
- Planning and sequencing lessons to meet pupils’ individual learning needs and using a range of strategies to ensure effective teaching, behaviour and classroom management;
- Working in partnership with the leadership team to monitor the success of the teaching of the curriculum and manage areas for improvement;
- Maintaining an attractive and stimulating classroom environment and contribute to making the whole school environment stimulating;
- Making appropriate educational provision for children with SEND;
- Maintaining assessment records and report on pupils’ progress to senior staff and to parents and carers, in accordance with school policy, regularly using the school’s tracking system for assessment;
- Ensuring good order and discipline among pupils;
- Developing and maintaining effective relationships with parents, colleagues, the governing body and the local community and ensuring effective links are made with support services;
- Taking responsibility for professional development and use the outcomes to improve teaching and students’ learning.

This role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.
