Full Time, 37 hrs per week


In Children and Families, our teams are responsible for managing child-in-need and child protection cases as well as cases in legal proceedings and looked after children. The casework is varied, and you will be working creatively within our restorative practice model to promote positive change within the home environment.  


Working as an Assistant Team Manager

The Assistant Team Managers (ATM) will work with the Team Manager to ensure effective running of the social work team to include oversight and quality assurance.


They will have a specific role with students, newly qualified and transition social workers you’ll embed a high-performance culture by helping your team to continually develop their skills so that they can achieve the best outcomes for our children and their families. Through reflective supervision meetings with your team of social workers, you’ll champion their personal and professional growth.


Alongside your role as a people manager, you will also be responsible for the allocation and oversight of cases within your defined area, ensuring quality standards are maintained, as well as supporting social workers to identify risk and decide when to take protective action.


About you

An outstanding social worker with a strong understanding of safeguarding, you will have significant post-qualifying experience gained within at least two different social care environments. We’re also looking for: 

  • Experience of supervising and mentoring qualified and unqualified colleagues
  • First-class interpersonal skills, to support the need to deal with complex social care issues
  • Good understanding of managing complex cases, including court work
  • Demonstrable experience of promoting practice that improves outcomes for children, and an understanding of challenging underperformance where needed
