ICT Technician - Bidwell Brook School

Bidwell Brook School in Dartington, part of the Learn to Live Federation, is a Special School for children and young people aged 3 - 19 with severe or profound and multiple learning difficulties. We have an ICT Technician vacancy, based at Bidwell Brook, to commence as soon as possible.

The ICT Technician is part of the federations ICT Team providing a support service to staff and students at the school, helping to maintain IT hardware and software within the school to ensure that systems are available to staff and students.

The main responsibilities of the role are:
• Use the school helpdesk system to organise and prioritise IT issues as they arise;
• Help the ICT Managers to install, configure and upgrade operating systems and software, using standard business, education and administrative packages and custom specific packages for use in departments;
• Help the ICT Managers to install, assemble and configure computers and laptops, network infrastructure and peripherals such as printers, scanners and related hardware;
• Help troubleshoot problems with computer systems, including hardware, software, network and peripheral equipment problems, and make repairs within scope of knowledge;
• Assist the ICT Managers with the planning, design, research and acquisition of new or upgraded hardware and software systems;
• Maintain current knowledge of hardware, software and network technology;
• Assist with installation and maintenance of servers, including network administration, user administration, monitoring of printing and data resources;
• Help research and test new technology;
• Assist staff to resolve problems with equipment and data.

You will have good communication skills. The role requires you to investigate and solve IT problems, to work as part of a team, adapt quickly to new problems as they arise, be flexible and resilient.

The school uses networking infrastructures, Windows 10 and Server 2016 and iOS/iPadOS and MDM.

We also use Assistive Technologies and software. You will have an interest in these areas as well as virtual server environments, Mobile Device Management solutions and iPad configuration and management.

This role might be of interest to applicants that have recently completed a Level 2 or equivalent IT qualification and are now looking for a role to gain hands on experience.
