Head of Human Resources - The Deaf Academy

The Deaf Academy operates from an award-winning campus for day and residential students. This is a unique opportunity to join our fantastic team and directly impact our young people’s experience.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working within a fast-paced environment, as part of a supportive team working together to grow the Academy into the leader in the area of Deaf Education and Care. 

Working with the Principal and Director of Finance & Resources, the Head of HR will be a trusted advisor to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), as well as having the ability and motivation to work at an operational level. 

A key element of this role will be the development over the longer term of a Workforce Development strategy for the Academy. 

This role is an ideal opportunity for an existing Head of HR or a current HR Manager/HR Business Partner looking for the next step in their career.

The successful candidate will be highly skilled and comfortable with all aspects of generalist HR, including employee relations.

Proven experience within either the Education or Care sector would be helpful. However, candidates with strong HR experience outside of these sectors are strongly encouraged to apply.

Experience managing the whole employee lifecycle and the ability to develop excellent relationships with staff from all levels of the organisation is an essential requirement to be successful within this exciting and highly rewarding role. 

Key responsibilities: 
• Supporting the SLT in ensuring effective employee and organisational development. 
• Supporting managers to manage their staff in line with Academy policies. 
• Maintaining and reviewing a competitive employee benefits package. 
• Providing advice and guidance with various employee relations issues.
• Maintaining complete and accurate HR records 
• Ensuring compliance with employment legislation including Safer Recruitment in Education.
• Design a plan for skills development and succession planning when considering the strategic plans of the Academy. 
• Coach line managers in effectively dealing with people management issues.

Key requirements: 
• Significant experience as a HR generalist in a Management or Business Partner role. 
• Experience of establishing and updating HR Policies and Procedures and processes in line with the wider organisational strategy and changes to legislation
• Proven experience of managing restructures and other organisational change
• The ability to support line managers in performance management
• The ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children and young people
• Highly skilled in influencing, negotiating, and building sustainable working relationships both internal and external. 
• Able to work in collaboration with others and to co-ordinate a team
