Orchard Manor School is part of the Special Partnership Trust. We are a special school with a residential provision that caters for nearly 200 students aged 3-19. We provide education and care for pupils with communication and interaction difficulties, Autistic Spectrum Conditions and learning needs. Pupils attend either weekly residentially (Monday - Friday) or as day pupils.

Our motto is ‘We live and learn together’. This is achieved through working in partnership with all stakeholders and other relevant professionals. We treat each child as an individual by ensuring the learning opportunities are challenging and engaging. Our aim is to help each child enjoy education which will enable them to be successful members of the school and wider communities.

Our school is situated in beautiful woodland grounds, in the seaside town of Dawlish. We provide a wide range of opportunities to learn outside and offsite to enhance the education and care of our pupils.

We structure our curriculum around our students identified needs in order to enable them to develop holistically.  Alongside academic progress, we are committed to supporting our pupils to develop their life and social skills, confidence and resilience and love of learning to promote their sense of achievement and self-worth. Our ultimate goal is that the young people who leave us are prepared for adulthood; whether that be employment, further education, training or living as independently as possible contributing positively within their community.

Orchard Manor School is looking to appoint a new Head of Care and Designated Safeguarding Lead to join its Senior Leadership Team. This is an exciting opportunity for a someone with a passion for residential care and safeguarding to join a high achieving, aspirational school and Trust.

We are seeking to appoint a passionate leader who has experience of leading a children’s residential setting and evidence of providing positive outcomes for young people in line with relevant regulation and legislation. The role of Head of Care and Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is exciting and varied with a range of responsibilities. The right candidate must be able to manage the responsibilities of being Head of Care and Designated Safeguarding Lead, as well as contributing to the wider school through the Senior Leadership Team. This means that prioritising work, managing workload and delegating tasks are key attributes which this role requires.

The right candidate must have a good knowledge and understanding of up to date safeguarding practices, policies and legislation. You must have confidence in managing safeguarding practices and policies and provide appropriate challenge to ensure a good culture of safeguarding across the school. The successful candidate should be enthusiastic, child-centred, have experience of working with a variety of young people and change management, and possess strong leadership qualities suitable to working in a busy environment, managing multiple teams and staff groups.

Candidates will need to be articulate and strong communicators with proven strengths in engaging, inspiring and motivating staff at all levels, and working with local community.
