Devon County Council are the Lead Local Flood Authority for their area with responsibility for the management of flood risk from surface water, groundwater and Ordinary Watercourses.
One of our key roles is as a statutory consultee to the Local Planning Authorities on sustainable drainage (SuDS) proposals for new major developments. We are seeking an enthusiastic person to join our Flood and Coastal Risk Management team who has the drive and ambition to make a difference and reduce the risk of flooding in our County.
The main purpose of this role will be to review the surface water management proposals for new development and provide advice on their suitability. You will also have the opportunity to be involved in many other aspects of flood resilience and recovery and assist the authority in preparing for the implementation of Schedule 3 of the Flood & Water Management Act.
Experience in flood or development related matters would be beneficial, however applications from technically competent individuals with career aspirations in flood risk management will be considered and skills development will be provided.
The ideal candidate will have:
- a relevant degree and/or equivalent level of professional qualification in a relevant subject e.g. flood risk management, civil engineering, geography or town planning.
- an understanding of relevant legislation, such as the Flood and Water Management Act 2010 and Land Drainage Act 1991.
- ability to understand, analyse and interpret complex technical reports and drawings.
- a full UK Driving Licence
