Estates & Grounds Maintenance Officer - The Deaf Academy

Please note the hours 3 days per week, 52 weeks per year, reduce to 2 days per week from end of October half term break until end of February half term break, then revert back to 3 days from February to October)

The Deaf Academy provides specialist education and care tailored to the individual needs of Deaf young people. The sense of belonging to an inspiring bilingual community can transform students as they develop language skills and journey towards independence and fulfilling their potential.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic person who will be responsible for the general maintenance of the Academy grounds and for the weekly inspections of the Academy’s fleet of vehicles. Our site is a short walk from Exmouth beach, it has wonderful grounds set around three buildings.

Key responsibilities: 
• The general maintenance of all Academy owned external areas to include regular grass cutting, hedge cutting, mowing, weeding flower beds,  weekly brushing of the astro pitch, bi-monthly cleaning of the astro pitch filters. 
• Maintaining the pathways, driveways, steps and gullies: clearance of leaves and basic maintenance of surfaces to include weeding, salting and gritting to ensure the premises stays safe and accessible.
• Carry out the weekly vehicle inspections on the Academy’s fleet of vehicles and valeting/regular cleaning. 
• Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young adults responsible for (or come into contact with) in accordance with the Academy’s Safeguarding Policy & Procedures. 

Key Requirements:
• Experience of working in a similar role.
• Initiative and the ability to work without supervision. 
• Effective team member.
• Ability to manage own time effectively.
• The dedication to promote and safeguard the welfare of our young people.
