Responsible for: Student Support

Job Purpose
• Ensure students are supported in accordance with person centred approaches and provide with personalised educational curriculums to meet their needs outlined in the EHC Plan;
• Support the Deputy Head and Headteacher by leading, developing and mentoring a team of staff through person centred approaches.

Key responsibilities
• To work closely with the managers and IVs to drive quality across Devon and Cornwall through standardisation and effective processes;
• To complete relevant training to support the development of good practice within the Quality Assurance cycle;
• Provide support, leadership and guidance to team through mentoring, positive examples and the promotion of person centred approaches;
• To demonstrate a commitment to the Safeguarding of Children and Adults and to recognise and report any disclosure, suspicion or evidence of harm, risk of harm, abuse or neglect in line with United Response’s Safeguarding policies;
• Undertake regular supervision meetings with staff identifying developmental opportunities where required;
• Ensure staff are effectively inducted through local / United Response induction procedures;
• Facilitate ENC Plan meetings and ensure staff are aware of reviews and implementation of individual plans;
• Support students to build community links with the local neighbourhood;
• Ensure staff are given the appropriate mandatory and non-mandatory training to perform in their jobs;
• Manage and staff at return to work meetings following sickness absence with guidance from Service Manager/HR;
• Manage performance issues engaging the appropriate informal / formal processes where necessary and with guidance from Service Manager/HR;
• Manage the staffing resources of the service including rota management and staff budgets;
• Ensure all staff have an up to date and live Personal Development Plan (PDP);
• Undertake United Response quality and Health and safety checks as required;
• Facilitate team meetings, acting as Chair when required;
• Take responsibility for legal notifications in respect to Health and Safety requirements;
• Take responsibility and assist with referrals to education programmes including carrying out home/school visits and diagnostic assessment;
• Support and develops relationships with stakeholders including families, advocates, Local Authority and care managers;
• Assist people we support in securing and keeping voluntary jobs and/or paid employment and ensuring teams know the importance of employment support in people’s lives;
• Write and build bespoke curriculums in line with students EHC Plans;
• Support staff to carry out required Quality assurance tasks in lesson planning and evaluation;
• To carry out teaching observations in line with Quality Assurance Calendar;
• To support Education Manager to action areas for improvement outlined in SAR and Ofsted reports;
• To undertake any other reasonable duties as requested.

Person Specification
Essential Criteria
• Passionate about making a difference and the work of United Response;
• Experience of supporting students with a learning disability and/or mental health need;
• PTTLS or equivalent;
• Experience in Health & Social Care or NVQ in Health & Social Care;
• Experience of supervising and motivating staff;
• Clear written and verbal communication style;
• IT literate and confident in the use of different IT systems / packages;
• Willing to undertake required training, sometimes off site and outside normal working hours;
• Willing and able to travel between locations as required;
• Available for flexible working patterns if required;
• Experience in working with educational commissioners and assisting with education referrals;
• BSL Level 1 preferable;
• Experience in supporting students that display behaviours that challenge and training in de-escalation;
• Track record in all aspects of job coaching including employer engagement, supporting students in work experience, supporting students into paid work and supporting staff to achieve these goals;
• Experience in writing and facilitating EHC Plan meetings.
