Devon County Council is seeking a proactive, highly motivated and passionate individual to lead, develop and manage initiatives to support and grow the County Council’s identified priority and growth sectors. The role will perform a vital link in engaging employers in a range of skills and employment programmes.
Digital and Sector Skills, part of the Economy, Enterprise & Skills service area, are a dynamic team delivering skills projects for Devon's emerging or priority sectors. We work collaboratively to enabling social mobility for Devon's residents and support our region's organisations to develop and grow through strategic skills policy implementation.
As a member of the Economy, Enterprise and Skills Service, you will play a vital part in strengthening our economy, encouraging new business growth and supporting a thriving county. The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Development of employer (private and voluntary sector) knowledge and relationships to support engagement across the Sector, Youth and Inclusion skills programmes.
- Providing capacity to engage with Sector groups such as Floating Offshore Wind (FLOW) and Manufacturing groups that support DCC’s key sectors
- Design and manage specific projects either directly or through partners to develop the County’s identified priorities for business sectors, economic recovery, and growth. This includes managing project partners, consultants, and budgets.
- Lead and collaborate with colleagues and external agencies to access funding opportunities that support the implementation of economic development priorities.
- Seek out opportunities to work with partners and other organisations to share and disseminate best practices. This includes hosting networking events and presentations to aid project development and continuous improvement.
- Contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of the Directorate’s work and its contribution to delivering the County Council’s Strategic Plan, the Strategy for Growth, and other implementation plans and programmes.
- Engaging with the Department for Education, Department for Science, Innovation & Technology and others to attract additional funding.
- Working with the Chamber of Commerce to deliver the Local Skills Improvement Plan
- Working with employers to support new qualifications, new career pathways to secure a pipeline of talent and sustainable workforce including in the health and care sector
- Identifying work experience and other opportunities for care leavers and care experienced individuals
- Promoting inclusive and supported employment options and programmes.
