Marland is a successful all age (KS1-4) special school for students with Social, Emotional and/or Mental Health (SEMH) needs. It is located across three sites: Peters Marland, Barnstaple and Bideford. This post is based at our Yr4-Yr11 residential school in Peters Marland (6 miles from Torrington), currently graded as 'Good' by Ofsted Education and 'Outstanding' by Ofsted Social Care. In May 2021, we opened our new purpose designed Design Technology / Vocational Learning Centre on this site providing excellent learning facilities for this important and popular multi-facetted subject.
Our overarching ethos is based around personalisation and meeting the needs of each individual child. We also utilise 'THRIVE' based social and emotional development at the core of everything we do.
This is a fantastic opportunity to take the lead role in maximising the potential of our excellent new DT / Practical Skills vocational facilities, delivering to small groups of our students. We are looking for an enthusiastic, caring, flexible and motivational DT specialist to join our friendly and committed teaching team. You will lead and work alongside our existing DT / Practical Skills Instructor to further develop and deliver a range of DT and vocational practical courses up to and including KS4 national accreditation level (GCSE, BTEC, etc). A good understanding of, and interest in, supporting the SEMH needs of our students are also important attributes for all staff.
You will need to be passionate about your specialist subject, adaptable / flexible and motivational to others. You will also be a highly effective teacher and communicator who is skilled at building relationships and equally passionate about helping children to develop socially, emotionally and skills wise. Although not essential, ideally you will have experience of working with SEN.
Training and ongoing professional development opportunities are offered to all staff, as are potential promotion opportunities due to the ongoing expansion of our popular schools.
