Deputy Town Clerk Wanted – A Role with Variety, Impact, and Community Spirit!
Are you someone who thrives in a role that offers both challenge and variety?
Do you want to be part of a team making a real difference in the community while also flexing your organisational and practical skills?
If you're looking for a role where you can balance administrative responsibilities with hands-on involvement in town projects, we have the perfect opportunity for you!
The Role
This is a permanent role and as Deputy Town Clerk, you’ll be the right-hand person to our Town Clerk, supporting them in the day-to-day running of the Town Council. This is no ordinary desk job – you’ll be involved in everything from helping prepare for council meetings to overseeing local projects and ensuring that our town's services and facilities are running smoothly. You’ll bring your practical awareness of maintenance issues and project work, making sure everything gets done right – though don’t worry, we won’t ask you to grab the toolkit yourself!
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Assisting with Council meetings – preparing agendas, taking minutes, and ensuring everything runs like clockwork.
- Helping to manage the Council’s budget, financial records, and reporting.
- Overseeing local projects and ensuring smooth coordination between contractors and staff.
- Helping to manage the administration and maintenance of the Council’s cemeteries.
- Keeping an eye on council facilities, making sure they’re well-maintained and safe for the community.
- Supporting the organisation of town events, from planning to execution, ensuring everything goes off without a hitch.
- Acting as the go-to person in the absence of the Town Clerk.
What We’re Looking For:
- Strong organisational skills – you’ll be juggling tasks, meetings, and deadlines.
- Strong administration skills, including windows and web-based applications.
- Strong team player, who can take direction as well as use their initiative.
- Practical awareness of maintenance and facility management issues – you’ll know when something needs attention and how to get it done.
- Great communication – whether it’s talking to contractors, Council members, or residents, you’ll be able to keep everyone in the loop.
- Experience in local government or administration would be a bonus, but if you’re a quick learner with a can-do attitude, we’d love to hear from you.
- Someone who can roll with the punches – things can change quickly, and we need someone who thrives in a dynamic environment.
Why Join Us?
This isn’t just a job – it’s an opportunity to be part of a close-knit team working to improve our town every day. You’ll have a role that keeps you engaged, with plenty of variety and the chance to see the impact of your work firsthand. Plus, we offer a competitive salary, professional development opportunities, and a work environment that values work-life balance.
