This is the Role
The Deputy Director Legal and Democratic Services is a key role within our Senior Leadership Team. You will act as the Council’s lead officer for Legal and Assurance as a whole and provide strategic direction and operational leadership for our Legal and Democratic services, ensuring that they are effective, efficient, provide value for money and are customer focused.
The directorate provides technical assistance to the organisation on GDPR and other information-related issues and deals with subject access and FOI requests. You will be the council's Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO), with responsibility for the overall Information Policy, Managing the DPO and jointly advising the Accountable Officer (AO) on the information governance risks.
The key responsibilities of this role include, the provision of regulatory advice to the Chief Executive and The Director of Legal and Democratic Services and Monitoring Officer and their staff as is necessary to enable them to lawfully exercise there statutory duties, managing the relationship with the information Commission, establishing and leading an Information Governance Board and leading the Information Assurance function within the Council to ensure compliance with statutory requirements in relation to data, and policy requirements of information security.
You will also formally deputise for and support the Director, being responsible for the whole directorate in their absence and be responsible for the strategic leadership, organisational direction, management, development and delivery of the Legal, EDI, insurance and Information Governance departments. You will advise senior officers and elected members on the regulatory implications of Corporate Strategy, objectives and service developments.
