The trust is a charity - Charity overview, HELE'S EDUCATIONAL TRUST - 810254, Register of Charities - The Charity Commission and its role is to make grants to maintained schools within the city of Exeter for specialised equipment and improvement of facilities not normally provided by the local authority and to give grants for educational purposes to individuals under 25 who attend or have attended a maintained school in Exeter or Exeter college.
Position Clerk Honorarium for Hele’s Educational Trust
The commitment is in the region of 250-275 hours per year
The payment per annum is £3,500.
Half of this is claimed every 6 months £1,750 in advance currently.
The payment is currently an honorarium (not a salary.)
There are 9 Trustees who are County Councillors and a Treasurer (from DCC Finance Department).
There are 5 or 6 meetings per year to clerk which last for approximately 1 ½ hours (currently scheduled between 1pm – 2.30 pm on a Monday) for the Heles Educational Trust committee. The meeting are usually in Feb, April/May, June/July, Sept and Nov, depending on how many applications come in from schools.
There are also 2 Investment subcommittee meetings per year (on a Friday between 10.30 am and 1.00pm) currently in May and Nov.
However, the Trust could be flexible on meetings dates and times if required.
Agendas and minutes need to be prepared for these meetings. Occasional updating of the website.
These meetings maybe online on MS Teams or at County Hall in Exeter.
In between meetings is general administration relating to grant applications / processing and sending out as well as notifying people of outcomes, so email and phone correspondence. Of course, there is flexibility in terms of when this is done and the work is generally remote / homeworking.
Correspondence with the treasurer for payments to be made and any other business that may arise in connection with the Trust, such as with the Charity Commission and the two Investment companies.
You’ll be employed as a Clerk.
Pay
Your pay per annum is £3,500 currently, to be reviewed annually before the end of the financial year by the Trustees.
Half of this is claimed every 6 months £1,750 in advance currently.
Place of work
Your normal place of work is home, working remotely although you may be required to work at Devon County Hall.

Variable hours or days of work
Your hours of work / days of work may change but are in the region of 250-275 hours per annum. Hours to be reviewed annually when reviewing honorarium. An appraisal may be required at this time.
