An exciting opportunity has arisen at Georgeham Church of England (VC) Primary School for a flexible, motivated and committed administrative professional to undertake the role of Clerk to the Governing Board. The Clerk plays a vital role supporting the Chair of Governors to ensure the smooth running of governance business. The Clerk will be accountable to the Chair of Governors and work closely with the Headteacher.

Georgeham Primary is a Church of England school serving the villages of Georgeham and Croyde and the surrounding hamlets. Our vision statement, ‘Small School, Huge Horizons’ encapsulates the ethos of the school - we are a school that’s small enough for every child to feel nurtured and confident but big enough in ambition so that there’s no limit to what each can achieve. The school was rated Good in its most recent Ofsted inspection in late 2019. The school is a member of the Braunton Co-operative Learning Trust.

The Clerk’s main role is to provide professional clerking and administration to the Governing Board and it’s committees.

You will:
• Act as an advisor to the board, keeping abreast of changes to governance requirements and education legislation so that governors fulfil their statutory obligations and cycle of work;
• Be able to provide procedural and legal advice and guidance to the Governing Board relating to procedural and policy matters;
• Collate and distribute agendas and associated paperwork, in electronic and paper form, in advance of meetings;
• Be available to take the minutes at all meetings, up to 20 meetings per year.  There are typically four Full Governing Board meetings each academic year and 6 meetings each for our Resources and our Teaching and Learning Committee. Meetings typically take place after school from 4pm to 6pm usually on a Monday or Tuesday evening;
• Be able to take accurate minutes from your own notes to produce well-presented minutes for distribution;
• Work collaboratively with the board to ensure Governor objectives are met;
• Attend relevant training events organised by the Local Authority and manage bookings for governor training;
• Ensure that Policies are maintained and signed off by the appropriate Committee or individual.

The hours are to be worked flexibly over the academic year in line with the Governing Board meeting timetable and annual cycle of business.

We are seeking a dynamic individual with a keen interest in education. Experience of clerking, school governance or administration is desirable. You should be tactful and able to deal with matters confidentiality and able to take the lead in advising on best practice where required. You should be competent in the use of Microsoft Word, e-mail and the Internet. The Governing Body currently use an internet-based system (google drive) to share documents and distribute information.
