We are seeking a Team Manager to provide professional leadership, supervision and support for our Care Experienced Service covering Exeter and the surrounding areas.
About the Role
As Team Manager, you will lead and support an established team of experienced Personal Advisors working to improve the life chances of care experienced adults between 18-25 years by supporting and encouraging them to make informed life choices.
Working in accordance with the Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000 and Devon County’s policy on service provision for Care Experienced Adults and Young People, you will have a sound knowledge of the legislation and regulations surrounding children in care and care experienced young people. Through guidance, supervision and support you will pass this knowledge onto your team to ensure the application and production of high quality work that has a positive impact on the children and young people they have responsibility for.
This is a fast-paced role where you will need to be approachable, adaptable and able to think proactively within a challenging and fast-paced environment. You will advocate for teamwork and the building of positive relationships whilst championing restorative practice. Strong communication skills are essential and you will be accustomed to liaising across a multitude of teams, internally and externally, to ensure your the provision of high quality, effective and consistent social care support.
There will be some occasional Court Work, linked to achieving permanence for our children and young people.

Skills and Experience
Our Team Managers have a direct responsibility to lead and manage the performance of their team, promoting good practice and encouraging continual professional development for all staff.
With substantial post-qualifying experience and the ability to demonstrate that you’re working in line with the BASW PCF framework, you will
- Be able to undertake robust risk assessments, demonstrating professional judgement and strategic decision making
- Have evidence of substantial post-qualifying training and development
- The role also involves managing adolescent risk and so a good understanding of contextual safeguarding is desirable
- Be able to lead improvement and challenge the quality of social care practice in a constructive manner
- Champion high standards of professional social work practice within your team, promoting a culture of professional curiosity
- Encourage and support opportunities for reflection and learning, delivering on-the-job training, coaching, and mentoring to unqualified/alternatively qualified staff, students, and less experienced social workers
- Be responsible for managing the team budget with the ability to delegate responsibility for decision making where appropriate
