We are looking to appoint a Catering Manager to work alongside our existing catering team. You will need to be an enthusiastic, self-motivated and a hard-working individual who can assist our kitchen staff in providing high quality meals for children, staff, visitors and events at our busy schools. From January 2023, our current in-house catering provision will increase further to include all our schools, with the exception of Drake’s and Otterton, 14 in total. Working closely with the Deputy CEO, the Catering Manager will be the conduit between the schools and the Trust, visiting all the sites to review the meal service and support the teams where needed. Working with the staff on site to understand healthy eating and proactively work with our teams to deliver an excellent catering service.
The Catering Manager will also be responsible for managing and coordinating the locations and schedule for our ‘floating’ catering staff. A tailored, partnership approach and enjoyment of working with pupil and staff alike to ensure the best catering service is being provided is vital in this role.
The successful Catering Manager will be an outgoing and approachable individual with the following experience;
• Hands on catering experience
• Ability to build key stakeholder relationships
• Good understanding of current health and safety policies and procedures
• A strong background in contract catering
• Previous experience in leading a team preferred
• Excellent reporting skills
• Food Hygiene Level 2 & 3 and Food Allergen training
This is an opportunity for any contract catering specialist to diversify their skillset. A full UK driving Licence with business insurance is required. A mileage allowance will be paid from a specific point – to be confirmed on appointment.
Main duties and responsibilities:
• Managing the team of Kitchen Managers and Catering Assistants and oversee the running of all pupil and staff dining
• Working with the Kitchen Managers (No.6) and the Trust H&S Coordinator to ensure Food Safety & Hygiene compliance is adhered to in all areas, organising training where necessary
• Ensure that Catering Assistants exercise high hygiene standards and wear designated protective clothing (including footwear)
• Line manage all kitchen managers and conduct probation meetings and annual appraisal meetings
• Liaise with Kitchen Managers to then create3 weekly healthy and nutritious menu’s each term, including menus for allergens e.g. egg free/Dairy free/Vegan etc
• Liaise with food suppliers regarding prices
• Liaise with the schools regarding special theme/ marketing days
• Ensure that all catering staff are aware of any meals which have ingredients that may cause allergic reactions and regularly check for pupil and staff allergies. From this create allergen sheets for all recipes and menus
• Check that food temperature charts and other kitchen logbooks are completed on a daily basis
