Through our Step In Apprenticeship Programme, we are looking for a motivated and curious Business Administration Apprentice to join our Information Governance Team. This is a fantastic opportunity to build valuable skills while gaining hands-on experience across a wide range of council services and a practical understanding of Information Governance—not just the theory, but how it works day-to-day in a busy public sector organisation.
In practice it will be 1 study day a week, and the rest at County Hall. There may be opportunity for some home working from time to time.
The work location for this position is at County Hall, Exeter, and will be primarily office based.
About the role
As an apprentice, you’ll play an important part in helping us manage and protect information across the organisation. You’ll get involved in activities that support how the council manages, protects, and uses information. Including:
- Freedom of information & transparency
- Data protection & privacy
- Information security
- Records management & information quality
- Working across Council services
- Projects & improvement work

We’re looking for someone who:
- Is interested in areas such as data protection, privacy, information security, and democracy
- Has excellent attention to detail and enjoys handling information
- Has good communication skills and can work with a wide range of people
- Is organised, reliable, and keen to learn
- Wants to build a career in a field that is increasingly important in today’s digital world
- Is motivated to provide excellent service to the people of Devon
- Has the minimum qualifications of grade C (4) GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths.

Starting in September, the duration of the apprenticeship contract will be 18 – 20 months.
Apprentices will work towards the Business Administration Level 3 Apprenticeship qualification. This will be supported by a combination of training and practical work experience.
We offer a highly competitive starting salary of £25,185 per annum, a starting holiday entitlement of 25 days, flexible working arrangements, and training.
