Assistant Network Response Technician

The Network Response Team (NRT) play a crucial role in delivering on several of the strategic objectives associated with the Highways and Traffic Management Service Plan and wider DCC Strategic Plan ‘Best Place’ in ensuring our highway network is safe and available to use for all. At its foundation we achieve this through management of a robust system of highway safety inspection and defect repairs across the County.
In addition, the team are also responsible for managing a number of capitally funded works streams including the Dragon Patching and Serviceability Patching programmes which see us work collaboratively with teams across the service, improving the network and supporting our wider asset management principles and objectives.
The team also manage the County’s extensive Winter Service operation each year, with a responsibility for gritting 20% of our highway network, utilising a fleet of almost 50 gritting vehicles along with the provision and maintenance of over 3,500 grit bins across the County.
You will join the team at an exciting time as we continue to explore innovative methods of highway maintenance such as ‘Elastomac’ mastic asphalt, enhanced used of data visualisation tools such as Power BI and the trial of preventative treatment of ice along footways and cycleways during winter, each with the goals of driving carbon reduction, more efficient ways of working and increased social value.
Amongst other tasks, the role will involve identification and preparation of highway patching sites, auditing of completed defect repairs to drive continuous improvement and investigating and responding to stakeholder enquiries.
