Join Our Team as an Assistant External Communications Officer
Are you a creative communicator with a passion for public service and storytelling? Devon County Council is looking for an enthusiastic Assistant External Communications Officer to join our dynamic and agile Communications Team.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in promoting the work of the Council, supporting our internal and external communications, and helping shape how we engage with the people of Devon, our partners, and stakeholders.
What You’ll Be Doing:
As part of a multi-disciplined team, you’ll:
- Support the delivery of high-impact communication campaigns and projects.
- Write and develop engaging content for digital, print, and social media platforms.
- Help promote a strong corporate and employer brand.
- Coordinate and support events, meetings, and stakeholder engagement.
- Monitor and respond to social media activity on behalf of the Council.
- Assist with the evaluation of communication effectiveness and explore new ways to reach diverse audiences.
What We’re Looking For:
We’re seeking someone who is:
- Experienced in communications, marketing, or a public-facing role.
- A strong writer with excellent verbal communication skills.
- Organised, creative, and able to manage multiple tasks under pressure.
- Confident using digital tools and social media platforms.
- A team player with a proactive and positive attitude.
Desirable Skills:
- Knowledge of design and digital media.
- Experience in local government or partnership working.
- A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject.
