For this role: You will be mostly office based at Forde House, Newton Abbot with some business travel

What you'll be doing: The Council has a clear ten year strategy which prioritises climate change and taking action to reduce the council’s carbon footprint.

You will be responsible for delivering carbon reduction measures across the authority by supporting and encouraging the Service Managers to make operational changes to reduce energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.

We are looking for an experienced professional who will be the Council’s expert advisor on carbon reduction.

Key elements of the role include producing and delivering a carbon action plan that delivers on the aim to be a carbon neutral Council. Taking forward projects that delivery a reduction in energy use, supporting policy development with our spatial planning team and assessing planning applications that have submitted Carbon Reduction Plans and advising on whether development proposals meet the targets set out in the Local Plan.  You will be working with elected members, the community and key internal and external partners.

Who we're looking for: A specialist professional officer with an excellent working knowledge of delivering energy efficiency in a Local Authority setting.

To be successful in this role, you will need a degree level or with a relevant professional qualification in Building, Heating or Mechanical Engineering, or other technical degree. You will demonstrate evidence of continuous professional.

You will have experience of best practice in energy efficiency and a current knowledge of new technology.

You will be able to demonstrate excellent communication and motivational skills that will be required to deliver the carbon reduction this Council has committed to achieving.
