Exeter Junior School is seeking a Teaching Assistant to join us from 1 September 2019. The hours include some after school cover, administration duties, classroom, playground and games support.
Exeter Junior School is an academically selective school for girls and boys aged 7-11 years (years 3-6). Expectations of pupils’ achievement are high and the majority progress to the senior school. There are strong links with the senior school; many facilities and resources are shared to mutual benefit.
Pupils are taught in form groups with Form Tutors teaching at least one core subject to their Form. As well as its high academic standards, Exeter School is particularly recognised for the excellence of its Drama, Music, Art and Sport, and offers a wide ranging extra-curricular programme to support these and other areas of learning.
The appointed candidate will preferably be a graduate (though this is not essential) with some experience of supporting children’s learning whether within a school environment, coaching in a club, working overseas or similar.
We are seeking a Teaching Assistant who is a capable and enthusiastic practitioner, familiar with the needs of pupils in the primary classroom and with a willingness to contribute to the broader life of this busy and vibrant independent day school; has a positive outlook with the ability to take instruction and act responsibly; and, has an understanding and appreciation of maintaining a professional and caring approach at all times.
The Teaching Assistant will be responsible, under guidance, for aspects of the teaching, learning and pastoral care of our pupils. The role requires excellent organisational and communication skills with the ability to develop and maintain good relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues.
There is a dynamic and experienced staff at Exeter Junior School and the successful appointee will be an effective communicator willing to work with, and contribute to, this established and successful team. Areas of the candidate’s individual strengths and experience will be discussed at interview.
The extra-curricular programme at Exeter Junior School is considered a strength and the newly appointed Teaching Assistant will be asked to contribute to the high quality games and extra-curricular provision.
This post falls into the category of Regulated Activity. Exeter School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
To apply, please see the Related Information section.
Your completed application form, along with a handwritten covering letter (which may be scanned and emailed), should be returned to Mrs Lisa Paget, Headmistress’ PA, by emailing email@example.com.
Please apply by noon on the closing date.
