Job Description

Southmead Primary School is looking for enthusiastic and experienced teaching assistants to support named pupils with SEND. One of the posts will work in KS1 plus 5 hours per week as a Mealtime Assistant. The other post will potentially work in Year 3.

We are looking for motivated team players with experience of working with children with a range of needs. A positive and encouraging attitude is essential, as is kindness, patience and an ability to use your initiative. You will need to have experience of working alongside staff to plan and deliver a differentiated curriculum and timetable based on the specific needs of one particular child or small group of children. We are looking for applicants who are dedicated to making a difference to children’s lives and to ensure every child has the opportunities they deserve.

We are looking for individuals with the following essential qualities:
– A Teaching and Learning Assistant Level 2 qualification or equivalent;
– Experience of working with children with additional needs;
– Experience of delivering 1:1 and/or small group interventions;
– A positive and encouraging attitude;
– Kindness and patience;
– A willingness to learn;
– An ability to work within a team;
– GCSE Grade C or above, or equivalent, in English and Maths.

And the following desirable qualities:
– Specialist Thrive training;
– Specialist training in a specific area of SEND;
– Specialist training in specific intervention programmes, e.g. Speech and Language;
– Working knowledge of the curriculum.

These posts are on fixed term contracts, from January until July 2022, and are based on the continued attendance and special educational needs of the named pupils.
