These are a summary of benefits of working for Devon County Council - further details are available on request, at interview, and at the start of employment.

Hours
The standard full-time week for all employees is 37 hours. This is worked over 5 days, usually with a flexi-time scheme. Variations to the standard week are outlined in the advertisement.

Flexi-time
Flexible starting and finishing times mean that staff can arrange their daily hours to suit their own circumstances. In most posts your manager will agree to you having flexible working hours providing staffing requirements and service are met.

Job Share
Some posts are available on a Job Share basis which involves two people carrying out the duties normally be carried out by one person. This may involve working a set number of hours each day, each week or alternate weeks.

Leave
The basic entitlement for all staff is 20 days rising to 25 days after 5 years continuous Local Government service. There are 8 Public Holidays and 3 additional days leave usually taken at Christmas. Part-time and temporary staff entitlements to annual leave are on a pro rata basis.

Pay
Officers are paid on APT & C salary points. Salaries are paid on the last working day of each month. After a minimum of 6 months on the grade, an increment is paid each April, subject to satisfactory performance, until the top of the grade is reached. Some posts are subject to local progression schemes and increments/payments may be subject to performance appraisal.

Probation Period
If you are a new employee with Local Government, the first six months will be a probationary period during which time your suitability for the post will be assessed. New employees will receive an induction programme during their probation organised by their managers.

Sick Pay
Sickness payments are usually made if you are absent through illness. This varies with length of service from 1 months full pay and (after completing 4 months service) 2 months half pay, to a maximum of 6 months full pay and 6 months half pay after 5 years service.

Pension Scheme
We offer an excellent final salary pension scheme. As an employee you will automatically become a member of the Local Government Superannuation Scheme. This scheme is funded by contributions from both the County Council and employees. If you prefer you will also have the right to opt out and make alternative pension arrangements.

Childcare Voucher Scheme
We have a scheme whereby part of your salary can be exchanged for childcare vouchers which are exempt from national Insurance contributions - providing a real saving on childcare.

The Coaver Club
All our employees are entitled to join the Coaver Club which offers a Licensed Bar, Cafe, Lounge and Patio and a Regular programme of music and entertainment. There is also a gym available for use by members of the club.
